Context
The Rapid Biofluid Analyzer is a prescription-use in-vitro device. It uses Raman spectroscopy to return whole-blood hemoglobin results in under 2 minutes without reagents. The software was developed under IEC 62304 / ISO 13485. I was the sole developer on the device software.
Problem
The device had to acquire data from a spectrometer, run a trained model, and show a result on a small touchscreen, while protecting patient data and staying within medical-device software standards.
What I did
- Built the Raman data-acquisition layer (Wasatch spectrometer over PyUSB) and the on-device pipeline that runs the trained model to produce hemoglobin predictions, with patient data encrypted using pycryptodome.
- Re-architected the device to remove its database dependency, and rebuilt the touchscreen UI in Kivy/KivyMD on a Raspberry Pi.
- Worked full-stack on the clinical Data Analytics platform (Java 8, Spring Boot, Angular 7–11) that the research team used to select datasets, configure signal-processing steps, train models and validate them against a held-out dataset.
- With one other senior developer, migrated that platform’s persistence from MyBatis to Hibernate/JPA and replaced a jQuery frontend with Angular.
- Delivered AG Grid Enterprise tables with server-side pagination and grouping over 100K+ clinical records.
